Former TEACHO Ltd. Executive Chair, the late Dr. Daryll Hull, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2025 Australia Day Honours for “significant service to the transport industry, and to tertiary education”.
The 2025 Australia Day Honours list recognises and celebrates 732 Australians, including awards in the Order of Australia (General and Military Divisions), meritorious awards and recognition for distinguished and conspicuous service.
Dr. Hull is one of only 457 recipients of awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia, and one of just 108 recipients in the Member of the Order division.
Individuals are appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for service in a particular locality or field of activity or to a particular group.
Dr. Hull was Executive Chair of TEACHO Ltd. for over a decade, from 2010 to 2021.
In his time at TEACHO Ltd Daryll is remembered for his energy and vision in pursuing research, capability development and skills building to improve health and safety for workers across the transport industry and beyond. This included the continued development of the BlueCard Skills Training Passport to improve safety standards for transport workers; the formation of Steering Heathy Minds, an initiative to promote Mental Health across the transport industry; and research into regulation and safety within supply chains in the transport and logistics sector.
These projects continue today, and TEACHO Ltd has introduced a fellowship award in Dr. Hull’s honour, to encourage and promote research in industrial relations, the field in which Dr. Hull was a scholar.
In receipt of the prestigious Member of the Order of Australia award, Dr. Hull is also recognised for his work beyond TEACHO Ltd. including his role as Co-director of the Centre for Workforce Futures, Macquarie University; Chair, Workforce Skills and Training Reference Group, Coastal Shipping Reform, Department of Infrastructure and Transport, 2010; Managing Director of the Transport and Logistics Centre (TALC); and Board Member of the Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association.
Sadly, Dr. Daryll Hull passed away suddenly on 30 September 2021.
“Obviously, we all wish Daryll was here to receive this award,” lamented Simon Earle, CEO of TEACHO Ltd. “We are incredibly proud of him, proud of his achievements, and this award inspires us further to build upon his contributions.”
TEACHO Chair, Paul Ryan remarked, “Daryll worked tirelessly within the transport and logistics sector for decades. He was instrumental in driving real outcomes to improve the industry – for workers, employers, infrastructure, and systems, whilst ensuring continuous and rigorous research was undertaken to properly inform policy. He is a worthy recipient of this award.”
